American Woodcock at St Edwards Park. I had a brief look at this bird on the 26th, but did not get photographs. Today I watched the bird for about half an hour. It was found along edge of Bull Creek upstream from the stone dam. This is a stone dam that is closest to Spicewood Springs Road. It has a small gap where the water flows over. The bird liked churned up muddy areas between the path and the water. The churned up areas may be from wild pigs. Also it would go to the very edge of the creek and feed. It flushed twice but flew only a short distance into the brush and within about five minutes walked back to the shore to feed. It did a lot of walking. It fed actively at 10 o’clock in the morning. The other observation on the 26th was about 5 PM. Could it be nesting?
