Two adults and a fledgling at 3.6 miles east of Lanfair Road (right where it forks). Another male singing and skylarking due west by about 300 meters. As I stepped out of my car a Cassin's Sparrow landed 10 meters away from me with food in its bill. It dropped to the ground, hopping around for a bit, and then flew off. As I started walking toward where it had been, another Cassin's Sparrow flushed from the base of some shrubs right at my feet. I looked for a nest but could not find one. I eventually saw two adults, but they were alerted by my presence, so I moved off to find the singing Cassin's Sparrow in the distance. Upon returning to my vehicle later, I again saw an adult Cassin's Sparrow carrying food. I watched as it dropped down to the ground, and then walked over to where it was. The adult flushed out, and seconds later a fledgling flushed out, aged by its short tail that was about 1/2 to 3/4 the length of the adult's tail. Otherwise the fledgling was similar in size to the adult, though the dorsal plumage appeared darker and fresher (I only ever saw this bird flying away from me). The bird flew a short distance and then landed at the base of a shrub or a small clump of grass. As I approached again, it repeated this behavior. This occurred five or six times over the course of 15-20 minutes, until I finally lost track of the bird. On a few occasions I would glimpse it run mouse-like through the grass before it flushed, though my views of it were never that good, and I never obtained a photo.
