Male (by plumage) Blue-gray Gnatcatcher at Fairfield, Maine
観察結果の詳細
I heard this bird singing at the edge of the southeast parking area along the border of ballfields and swamp with willows, poplars, and box elders. The gnatcatcher was giving a whining, nasal series of ‘ehn’ notes, these generally in couplets or triplets interspersed or introduced with sharp, scratchy single notes. Small, long-tailed bird with bright blue-gray crown and back; thin black line over eye, white eye ring, dingy whitish underparts, tail black with white outer rectrices. The bill was long and thin pointed. The song is characteristic of eastern populations, here nominate caerulea. Tail pattern important for subspecific identification not seen well. This species is uncommon in neighboring northern Kennebec County and southern Somerset County but is rare in most of county north of here, hence flag.
