MEGA. Juvenile. Report submitted to IBRC electronically. Subspecies group is being diagnosed on the basis of the 5-6 brown-centered rear flank feathers. Birding World (Vol 16 No 9 pages 377-385), in the paragraph on juveniles, states that "at least some juvenile Mongolian Plovers (ie. of the taxa C. m. mongolus and C. m. stegmanni) exhibit diagnostic dark marks on the rear flanks, although they may be paler than on adults." These marks are clearly visible in this video in addition to being recorded in my field notes PRIOR to my hearing about its value as a field mark: Bird flew south over the harbor at 6 PM and was not seen to land. Last seen in flight over water heading roughly south. Terrible lighting and constant rain made viewing challenging. It could easily have stayed or gone; there is no way to know until tomorrow. Description: voice was heard one time only, right as it flew at 6:00PM for the final time before being lost. The sound, a single 'pip' note, is audible at 1:12 in this video
