NOTES: Nagra IV-S in MS Stereo & M+LFA. BNA: Song. Background noise is significant. Bird approached wolfberry (Lycium sp.) walking on the ground. Calls given when it entered the bush. Bird then made its way through the interior of the bush to the crown where it delivered most of the songs heard in the recording. After singing it departs by dropping down the outside of the bush and running along the ground. The bird repeated this same departure method with every song perch. While singing the tail was pumped slightly downward with each phrase. The throat was slightly puffed, expanding during song. The head is turned a significant degree from side to side (60+ degrees) while singing. While singing this bird's posture is erect with tail hanging down nearly vertical--except when vegetation got in the way. [Ten songs and song fragments that include mimicry. Prior to singing, the bird give a "Suuuweeep" Call at 0:11. Species imitated appear to include Aquila chrysaetos (2:29, 3:365-3:37, 4:465-4:47, 5:39), Tyrannus verticalis (call - 2:18), Lanius ludovicianus (3:175-3:185), Stelgidopteryx serripennis (2:22-2:225, 4:035-4:04, 4:42-4:425, 5:335-5:34), Mimus polyglottos (call - 2:305, 3:32, 4:18), and possibly Catoptrophorus semiplamatus (1:525-1:535, 3:00-3:005, 5:40-5:41) and Toxostoma curvirostre (1:095-1:10). Quality changed from 2 to 2-1, 2 (faint airplane noise after 5:15) - CAM - 10 November 2005]. Habitat: Desert.
