NOTES: Recorded at the Oceanic Foundation. 1/2 track original, Magnemite 610-E 7060. Recordist notes: high-pitched, mouse-like squeek, 2 frequencies. 2-transistor, ground-emitter, battery-operated pre-amplifier was used. This animal was captured on May 11, 1965 off Oahu and transported to a circular tank about 50' in diameter and 12' deep. The hydrophone was dropped in the water, and cable went to the recorder out of sight of the animal. It then began to squeek, these were recorded. The squeeks also could faintly be heard out of water. No bubbles came out of the blowhole at the time "vocalizations" were made. This recording was compared with that of the same species recorded by Wm. E. Schevill and Wm. A. Watkins on the East coast of the U.S. and published in Wood Hole Oceanographic Institution's disc "Whale and Porpoise Voices," and simularities noted, although the disc did not have the squeeks on 2-frequencies as does this tape." MLNS notes: distress calls [07Apr2005CB]? TEMPAIR: 27 TEMPWATER: 26. Other Behaviors: Squeaks.
