one seen & photo'd a few hundred metres east of start of Anasco Track, in response to tape; another heard. This is a blackish, white-spotted Ninox that is currently tentatively assigned to this species, but is a newly discovered taxa (and we heard it had just been collected a week ago), so will be described to science in due course as a new subspecies or (possibly) a new species. Rob saws it calls are very similar to N. ios in N Sulawesi.
