観察結果の詳細
Very rare- approximately a 9th state record record if accepted. 2nd cycle/2nd calendar year bird. Full documentation to be forwarded to MBRC. On first examination bird was very similar to a RBGU, but showed a very poorly streaked head for a 2nd cycle, with a noticeably large and more centrally-located (on the face) and all dark eye. This prompted a closer examination, which within a minute revealed a tiny bill essentially lacking a gonydeal angle, smudges on the nape rather than flecks as in all nearby 2nd cycle RBGU, steeper forehead and proportionately larger eye, dove like head proportions, longer primaries and hind end, darker mantle than RBGU, obvious tertial and scapular crescents more contrasty and larger than those of nearby RBGU, wingtips held higher above water at rest than on adjacent RBGU (see final photo below), ghost pattern of windows on p4-7 despite being in 2nd cycle, larger p10 mirror than normal 2nd cycle RBGU, bluish yellowish legs, and bluish yellow bill base with black distal half. A typical 2nd cycle MEGU, of the Short-billed (brachyrhynchus) race. Bird was in the gull flock immediately north of the north breakwall when found, then later on the south breakwall, then the north breakwall, and then it finally flew back to the beach just north of the north breakwall. Last seen at 435PM.
