NOTES: Note in reel box: "Moray Eel pulse analysis: in an effort to correlate known captive moray eels (Bermuda Aquarium) sounds with the "Bermuda Thing" (echolocation pulses heard in St. George's Bay), we examined many pulses. These results are made known: 1. These eel pulses are short, low, high, and combination low and high frequency broad band noises. 2. Levels are strong to weak. 3. Pulses are random in amplitude and frequency. 4.No cries or discrete frequencies were noted (all were in tanks, noises from water suply were present, none recorded in so-called good acoustic conditions.) 5. No repetitious pulsing was noted other than few doubles. 6. No air bladder resonation sounds shown other than few 6-8Kc ping points of a pulse. 7. These eels have similar pulse characteristics of American common eels. Based on April & August Bermuda Aquarium tapes #TRI-7-7 & TRI-7-8 A&B. - Sept. 1964. Also see extensive notes for these tests with MLNS #116987.
