My first for my NWT list. Unknown if there are any other fall records in this region. I had excellent looks through my Kowa 773 and TE 11 eyepiece--much nicer than evidenced by the photo. I had also acquired a digiscoping adapter for my DSLR, but I haven't tried to use that yet (to my chagrin) so this was trying to take a picture with my iPhone. First noticed was the pale chalky grey face, which extended from the eyebrow area halfway down the neck. This was obvious at great distance. The two birds seemed to be regularly performing mild threat displays, yet they were inseparable. They had relatively rounded heads, with a RUDU-like bill. When the birds were diving, I didn't notice wings being used to thrust downward. I'm unsure if the birds were juveniles or adult females.
