showing eye color
観察結果の詳細
Young bird. Head shape, highest point of crown is forward on head, and bill appears small, suggests Barrow's instead of Common. Additionally, Reeber's Waterfowl Guide describes Barrow's Goldeneye juveniles as having a gray-brown iris, and Common Goldeneye have olive-brown. Reeber also states that Barrows Goldeneye bill initially have a reddish tinged nail (tip), and Common has a bill entirely brownish-gray or olive. I've added 2 more photos to show the reddish tip, and the color of the eye showing a more grayish-brown eye. Additionally Barrow's Goldeneye breed within a 100 miles or so, while Common Goldeneye do not, so Barrow's is also more likely at this time of year. This bird landed briefly on the large pond, before flying westward.
