When we arrived at Callender it was getting light and when we found the spot where the bird had previously been seen we were the only birders there. However, it didn't take long for us to find the bird and it was showing well on the river in front of us and I was able to get some film of it. The bird had a bluey-black head with white crescents on either side of it's face. Apart from the head, overall it looked similar to the Common Goldeneye, however it differed by the white markings on it's wings.
