5- In corn field stubble along 160th Lane. 23-Singing, calling & moving about in corn stubble, seen along SW 60th Road. We both counted each Meadowlark 1x1, as they appeared. I tried to photograph them, moving about in the field, but because a farmer was working hard at the other end, it kept them stirred up and frequently moving, so most of my pics, turned out blurry... These Meadowlarks were not the typical ones we usually see. They were lightish-tan with mostly soft brown bodies, backs, bellies and tails, and maybe a hint of soft yellow on throat, but none above eye, in the supercilium, nor the supraloral, nor on their chest, bellies, or undertail coverts. Without any definate yellow that we could see, and such light tan bodies, sides and undertails, and hearing their songs repeatedly, we believe these were Western Meadowlarks. Note: Just up the road to the North, about 2-3 miles, we suddenly heard and saw Eastern Meadowlarks with lots of intense yellow on their bodies: supralorals, throats, and bellies, with darker brown stripes on their heads, V's on their chests, and in their body feathers...quite a contrast!
