*Rare for Hastings; Hillside MEGA. Remarkably a nemesis bird for me in my childhood woods, in which all of the previous records have been one-day-wonders found by other lucky observers. My first new addition to my Hillside list since the MOWA/GWWA duo in Aug 2024. Found by Ann Mackey earlier in Nov and amazingly still continuing, which is very unusual for any ducks on Sugar Pond. I couldn’t chase earlier in my break, but right before leaving for the train, I stopped by with my dad for the briefest of walks to Sugar Pond to check for the ducks. Sure as heck, even in the chilly rain, there they were, a male and female, resting near the phrags. The female was oddly diving quite frequently, a behavior I haven’t seen in this classic *dabbling* duck, but the male was acting more typically. Crappy digibin photos to come since I didn’t want to get the camera wet
