Remarque Jules : Individu trouvé le matin même par Mama Yufon (donnée sur Faune-Guyane). Un très beau mâle très réactif à la repasse. === Remarque Julien : Splendid, fabulous, marvellous!!!! A first for French Guiana, found that very morning by Mama Yufon (well done!). As soon as the photo was posted on Faune-Guyane, we rushed to the site with Jules and Augustin. When we arrived, we immediately played back the contact calls of the species. Within three minutes, a response was heard at the top of the kapok tree... a little more calling, and the bird fell into the mombins on the Prefecture side: bingo, it was really the Yellow-throated Warbler!!! 🤯😱🤩 What followed was a wonderful sighting in the mombins, then in the coconut trees on the other side of the car park. The bird moved along the thin branches, palms and trunks like a black-and-white warbler (very unexpected for me!), searching for food, clearly in good shape. I have not yet researched the sex, age and origin (ssp) of the bird. The yellow at the front of the eyebrow could indicate that it belongs to the subspecies from the south-east of the range. I guess it's an adult male. This discovery is truly exceptional. This warbler breeds in the south-eastern quarter of the United States and winters not far away, in Florida (where it is partially sedentary) and Texas, in Central America and the Greater Antilles, but no further afield. This is well outside its normal range. This is a first not only for French Guiana, but also for the Guiana Shield. The closest record is in northern Venezuela, no less than 1,500 km as the crow flies from La Poudrière de Cayenne... it is the second southernmost record of the species in the world. After this Venezuelan record, one has to go as far as Guadeloupe (>1600 km - 2 records) and Bonaire (>1900 km - 4 records) to find other observations of the species, even though these are two islands that are well birded. I was thinking of a dozen or so potential new species of migratory warblers for French Guiana, but certainly not this one! I thought that Hurricane Melissa's passage over Jamaica and Cuba might have something to do with the arrival of this completely unexpected warbler in French Guiana, but Olivier's potential observation in October would seem to contradict this hypothesis. In any case, what an incredible data!
