Amazing annual seasonal spectacle of clouds of swallows coming to roost in phragmites of Goose Island. We saw the first few swallows arriving 7:00pm; then 10; then 100; then 100’s. Most seemed to be arriving from the SW (maybe the flocks feeding at Hammonasset?). About 7:20 the clouds funneled down, tornado-like; then the sky was again empty by 7:25! Photos and video. [SPB: I agree, most swallows were flying in from the SW. From my position on the RiverQuest bow/starboard, a good number also were coming north up the east side of the Connecticut River, but nowhere near the number arriving from the SW.] SPB Photos: 1. 7:09:28 2. 7:10:54 3. 7:11:52 4. 7:12:11 5. 7:13:02 6. 7:15:16 7. 7:16:33 8. 7:18:12 9. 7:20:09 10. 7:20:23 11. 7:20:31 12. 7:20:32 13. 7:20:33 14. 7:21:01 15. 7:21:24 16. 7:21:29 17. 7:21:41 18. 7:21:59 19. 7:22:18
