Woodpecker called and was first spotted by Cindy on cactus along side of trail. Has characteristics of Ladder-backed: Red on head extends to eye; forehead is buffy; face has lots of white; upper back has very narrow bar of black, not as extensive as usual on Nuttall's. Underside of tail has extensive barring. Hybrid? Not in "hybrid zone" as I understand it. Seen on Stonebridge Trail from here: 32.93326, -117.00032 Moved from prickly pear cactus to laurel sumac shrub.
