** Very Rare ** especially for upstate region. Handsome adult in breeding plumage. Mid-sized heron, roughly half the size of GBHE and nearby Great Egret.Lean and lithe foraging in the shallow water of overflow pond. Long necked , long yellow legs and dark tipped dagger like bill. Upper parts a bluish gray tone with hues of purple. Bluish gray head and neck with white medial stripe running from base of buffy yellow throat, through to white belly/underside.Dapper looking with its long white plumage from back of head. In flight, bright white underwing coverts visible as he departed to the NE losing sight of over the I-190. Awesome!! Finally an often imagined Rare wader comes to fruition at this overlooked Hotspot in the middle of suburban blight. Photos TBA.
