Excellent find by Kendall Watkins on 16 May, 2024 (see https://ebird.org/checklist/S174847346). On this day there were a very large number of meadowlarks, presumably concentrated by a horde of Mormon Crickets. Unfortunately the wind kicked up making recording near impossible. Nonetheless while traipsing through the area on multiple occasions I was certain I heard the buzzy zrrt calls of CHME that really stood out compared to the innumerable chup and teer calls of the WEME. I seem to have managed one recording capturing one call (see attached). We spent time glassing flying meadowlarks for any with a lot of white in the tail but there were so many meadowlarks constantly flushing and flying even this was difficult. I did manage at least one very poor photo that demonstrates white of what looks like R2-R6 but certainly R3-R6 and obviously more white than in any WEME tail (see attached). Total number of birds uncertain and the 2 photos I included were taken 4 minutes apart in the same area though I have not a clue whether it was the same bird.
