Dettagli dell'osservazione
Interesting to know which of the 'new' species of Subalpine warbler this was after the splits of the 2020s - Western, Eastern or Moltoni's? The bird was feeding in a weedy cabbage field along Four Lanes. The head was a clear, unmarked, pale grey, merging with a mousey coloured mantle; ear coverts also pale grey, slightly paler than the crown and rest of the head. Eyes were reddish-brown, and with a pale orbital ring. Wing feathers dark grey with pale brown edgings to the secondaries, looking brighter in strong sunshine. Tail greyish-black with most of the outer tail feathers white - according to Svensson Ringers Guide this is consistent with it being an adult (female?) bird. Underparts with a buffy-pink wash and showed a faint white moustachial stripe (again, ?? adult female). Legs yellowish, sometimes looking more orangey in strong light. There was also a stronger, almost orangey suffusion on the sides at the 'shoulder' of the wing.
