Saw one bird just few kilometers from the ticketing office. We were on our way back from a three days camping trip and I saw this bird in a small shrub at about six feet from the ground level. At this time I had never seen this bird before, so I asked the driver of the jeep to stop and took some photos of it. We were just about 3-4 meters from the bird, it was alone, and did not show any sign of fear. It kept moving from branch to branch, taking no notice of us. I showed the bird to the ranger who was with us and even he could not identify it. And only after coming home and posting my photos in a few online forums that I identified this bird as Eurasian Wryneck, whom is indeed rare to be seen in Sri Lanka.
