***1st inland NC record (at least verified). Found by Peggy Sanders. Medium-sized heron with black legs and bill, overall plain ashy gray. Did the iconic "hunting dance" several times as it foraged. Between foraging sessions, would rest and preen. Found at the beaver pond, behind the main pond. At times came very close to shore.
