A pair of Inland Dotterels standing, head-bobbing, feeding, and running. Inland Dotterels (Peltohyas australis) are cryptically patterned birds of the Australian interior, usually occurring in pairs or small flocks, but sometimes in the hundreds., They live on claypans, areas of low, sparse vegetation or rocky gibber plains. Unlike other Dotterels, Inland Dotterels do not associate with water – their distribution in arid Australia largely coincides with areas receiving les than 100 mm of summer rainfall. Inland Dotterels are mostly inactive during the day, but this pair was foraging on the edge of a claypan on a drizzly, overcast day on Wooleen Station in Western Australia’s Murchison Region. Elevation: 293 m. Date added to IBC: July 2, 2019.
