Yellow-browed Bunting (Emberiza chrysophrys)
פרטי השורה
Yellow-browed Bunting (Emberiza chrysophrys) Many thanks to Dr. Abhinav Chaudhary who first suggested in Indian Birds that the bird probably was a Yellow-browed Bunting and not Tristram's Bunting. Without his inputs probably, we would have recorded the ID of the bird as Tristram's Bunting. Thanks to Shubhankar-da for posting the images of this rare sighting to forums outside of "Wildlife of West Bengal". Thanks to Praveen Jayadevan, Arka Sarkar, Kanad Baidya for taking interest and following up with Mr. Paul Leader who finally confirmed the ID with the following inputs: "I believe this is a female Yellow-browed Bunting for the following reasons (discussion here only addresses ID of females): · Bi-coloured supercilium. Yellow-browed Bunting (YBB)always shows a clearly bi-coloured supercilium whereas Tristram’s Bunting (TB) shows a uniform (often rather brown) supercilium · The very white underparts with black streaking. This is typical of YBB whereas Tristram’s shows a more extensive brownish wash to at least the flanks and breast and has browner, less well defined streaking making it appear rather dingy and comparatively poorly marked below. · Rump colour. TB typically has rich brown rump and uppertail coverts, these are duller and greyer on YBB. This bird is typical of YBB. · Larger pale spot on the earcoverts is typical of YBB and would be smaller or lacking on TB. · The fine streaking on the upper breast always extends on the lower throat in YYB (making the pale throat poorly defined along the lower border) whereas in most TB the streaking stops at the lower throat resulting in a neater, well defined throat patch.
