Unfortunately, I only had a couple of minutes to watch them and I did not catch them fly when the Merlin flushed everything so quickly. photos to come tomorrow when I get back to my computer; one photo captured all five at once and showed the light axillaries as opposed to the black of a Black-bellied Plover
