Very large individual, so leaning towards her being female. Buteo with rusty chest, checkerboard wings, and thickly banded b+w tail. Was seen sitting in the yard eating a possum that had been struck by a car the previous day that she had brought into the yard from the road. She attempted flying off with the meal after eating for a few minutes. First attempt she struggled to carry it and landed back on the ground. Second attempt a few minutes later she was able to carry it up to a nearby tree. Will add pics
