***Very rare. First DuPage County record, and one of only a handful for the state. Found this morning by Josiah Verbrugge and Aidan Kingsbury who got word out to Sulli Gibson who texted some local friends. I put word out on the RBA/Discord and headed out myself. When I arrived, I learned Jane Icenogle had a few looks at the bird, but it had vanished into the trees since she’d left. A number of us looked for a couple hours, with most eventually heading out without success. While in the area, I focused efforts around the southern and eastern treelines from the below pin, as well as the prairie area north and west of the path (centered around here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/6PmSBGnD4fxVFXQt8?g_st=ic). After Andy Sigler and I worked the southern treeline one last time with no luck, we parted ways and he began heading out. I walked one final pass next to the original bushes Josiah had originally found the bird in (the above pin), and to my utter shock, I noticed the thrasher walking on the ground skulkily in the bushes. Shouting to those present, we surrounded the bushes and eventually the bird popped up and offered wonderful views. Joined by Andy Sigler, Ryan Jones, Jayne Leone, and Yusuf Jassim. Eventually it flushed to the southeast and briefly perched on top of a cedar before diving into the brush. A smaller thrasher (Robin-sized)with an all gray back, bright yellow eye, densely black streaked breast and underparts on top of an overall cream-colored/pale breast and body. Had a shorter slightly curved black bill, and long gray tail with white spots on the corners evident in flight, and it cocked its tail while on the ground. Many photos taken, a great find by Josiah!
