***very late. Dowitcher will a very short bill, thin body, spotting on breast extending down onto the sides, and fairly dark gray underwing coverts. Winter-plumage dowitcher ID is extremely difficult, but the suite of characters in this bird all suggested the less likely Short-billed option over Long-billed: -bill length alone is not a reliable feature, but a bird as short-billed as this one is unlikely to be Long-billed -the thin body shape, rather than heavy and rounded supports Short-billed over Long-billed -the brown spotting on the breast extending down the sides supports Short-billed over Long-billed, which should have a clean gray breast with a clean line separating the white belly -in flight, the underwings were extensive gray as in Short-billed. I paid particular attention to the feathers on the leading edge of the inner underwing coverts, which did not show the patch of white expected on a Long-billed No later records in the fall for Ohio in eBird, though Bruce Peterjohn reported an otherwise unprecedented 35 individuals on November 12, 1984 at Hoover Reservoir in central Ohio- https://ebird.org/checklist/S3307530.
