Ammospiza with a short bill, purplish nape, white median crown stripe, and crisp black streaks on the flanks and finer streaks on the breastband. Bold dark stripes on the back. Complete white eye ring. Overall buffy. Seen about two hundred yards down the gravel road, on the left side feeding in the roadside grasses. Photos to come.
