The male individual shows an orangey yellow plumage below the dark throat. Going through the pictures of male Garden Sunbirds from Birds of the World, this feature is present in male individuals found in Aklan, Bohol, Cebu, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Romblon; Compostela Valley, Davao del Sur, Maguindanao, Surigao, Zamboanga del Sur (more extensive orangey coloring). The picture from Sorsogon is not very convincing.
