Adult female. Feeding in tie vines by ditch on west side of Wiess college. 29.71515° N, 95.40158° W We discovered this bird around 830 after we had gone around Harris Gully. We had seen very little at Harris Gully, but as we were walking along the ditch next to Wiess College, I saw a hummingbird shoot by. It perched up high on some dead branches and I noticed it was quite gray. My initial thought was Black-chinned based on the grayness, but it called, a high pitch tsit tsit, which made me instantly think Anna's Hummingbird, a bird I am very familiar with from living out in California. I was able to get everyone on to the bird. Once we got better views, we could see a bird that was dull green on back and dusky below with a dark throat patch. The throat patch flashed pinkish red briefly. I was able to get photos of it feeding in the tievine. Gray below with dusky chest and sides. Dull green crown and back. Dark central throat patch bordered by gray. Dark auriculars. Small but bright white dot behind eye. Bill straight. Female adult Anna's Hummingbird. We watched it for about ten minutes, but then it darted to the north and appeared to keep on going.
