This bird was first seen flying into Battery Langdon, where it flashed extensive bright yellow below. We managed a few photos here before the bird flew west. We were then joined by Brian Cammarano. We searched for nearly two hours before relocating this kingbird off a trail between the two campgrounds. We were able to get better photos and also a recording of it vocalizing. The bird showed a large bill, bright yellow below reaching the upper chest and no white edging on the outer tail feathers. At this point we identified this bird to be a Couch's Kingbird. The bird flew again and was lost for a bit. We again relocated this bird feeding in a field where a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher and a Western Kingbird were feeding. We had very good comparison looks between the WEKI and the Couch's. The Couch's also vocalized several more times while being near these other vagrants. All of these birds were last seen flying into a group of oaks around .3 miles west of the Battery Langdon pavillion just before dark.. Photos and audio TBA.
