This was a particularly fun find today as cuckoos have been pretty scarce this year, quite possibly due to a poor year for gypsy moths and tent caterpillars. This guy is on its southward migration and I read there were a couple of other reports in our area this week as well; it must be their time to go! In spite of our food shortage, I had the joy of watching this guy find and eat a big caterpillar which took a really long time to subdue and swallow. A treat for the cuckoo and a treat for me!
