Mark McShane’s notes: DAY 12, from our initial vantage point on the Myrtle Pond East (central) Tower (31.2822504, -81.2915087) the original four pretty young birds were continuing together just standing, preening, and resting about 450-500 feet straight out from the tower at about 31.2828905, -81.2927985. One of them was very closely and directly behind another so that it usually looked as if there were only three flamingos there! Note that in this species various subadult plumages continue for the first three years or so. - - - The new and continuing fifth and much older bird, which had come in well after the first four had arrived and were discovered, kept about a quarter of a mile apart from the younger birds up at the northwest corner of the pond and was actively foraging about 400 feet out (at about 31.2860194, -81.2936682) from our vantage point on the North(west) Tower (31.2862765,-81.2950582). - - - Call LSSI at 912-638-7472 to ask if the birds are still there, and if so schedule or join a nature or birding day trip to hopefully see these flamingos as desired! - - - Screenshots from the handheld phonescoped videos.
