****Inland mega. First upstate NY record in eBird (several historical records list in Bull's) and wholly unexpected (though very recently imagined.) Adult flew in fairly close from south at 17:29, loosely with three Common Terns, and landed on gravel bar just on north side of point. I got on it flight and realized what it was just as it was landing. It sat on the gravel bar for about 25 minutes, waddling around slightly and sitting behind Bonaparte's Gulls and Caspian Terns. At 17:53, the three Common Terns took flight and the Roseate reluctantly followed suit a few moments later, flying up to join them as they headed north up the lake, gaining a bit of altitude, and disappearing into the fog with no sign of stopping. A small, slender Sterna in flight, with very pale upperparts and flight feathers and an extremely long tail. At rest, markedly smaller and shorter-legged than nearby Common. Pale upperparts and primaries still apparent, but thin, all-black bill (dark red just at base) stood out more than any plumage difference. Shortish legs dark red.
