פרטי השורה
Continuing adult bird. Cooperated briefly for photos. Identified as “Mew” gull by slightly smaller size compared to Ring-billed Gull, with slightly darker gray mantle, dark iris (not yellow), lack of obvious dark ring around a thinner yellow bill, and contrasting thick white tertial crescents. Fine pattern of wingtip was captured in one photo. This pattern best matches that of Larus canus canus (European Common Gull) according to the figure on p 32 of Gulls of Europe, Asia and North America by Olsen and Larsson (2003). The small white mirror on P8 occurs in “certain males” of this taxon. The narrow white moons between the gray tongues and black terminal bands of p5-7 also rule out Asian subspecies of Common Gull (heinei and kamtschatschensis) as well as Short-billed Gull of western North America.
