Spotted by Lea Squires during weekly SNPL survey. Border Field State Park is currently posted as closed to all pedestrians, bikes, horses, and vehicles, with sewage contaminated water flowing from Goat Canyon across the road past gate. Monument Road is also flooded W of Hollister from last rains and best driven only in high clearance vehicle. WIPL was roosting with (and being harassed by) SNPLs at high tide line roost ~0.3 mile N of border fence and S of main horse trail/beach access. Later foraging near waterline on various inverts ~0.5 mile N of border fence but still S of horse trail. Potentially could show up just N of the Tijuana River mouth in the SNPL roost there (accessible from S of Seacoast) or farther N between Camp Surf and Coronado. It should be noted that the two previous late March WIPL records were from the easier to get to Seacoast side of the river mouth. This establishes the earliest record of WIPL in CA with a few other occurrences in late March.
