פרטי השורה
Four gorgeous adults north of the marsh. Small, straw-colored sparrows with short tails and small bills. Black lateral crown stripes, white median crown stripes, buffy breasts, purple nape spots. Flat chip calls and long, tinny, downslurred calls. Three seen together in the same view at 41.890576,-88.369994, with the other clear on the other side of the field. In my experience, the best time to see this species here in migration is within the first two hours of sunlight. Listen for their chip call if you can and track them down by following that. It’s very similar to the Savannah Sparrow chip, but in my experience they are less likely to give it than LeConte’s. For example, the only birds I heard today giving this chip today were LCSPs. All the SAVSs gave their short flight calls and occasionally their raspy fight calls, and they outnumber LCSP here by far.
