הערות
Section 1: - Call at 3.5 seconds, short, raspy, and rising like Eastern Towhee. - Call at 4 seconds descending then ascending "ruh" call more like a plains hybrid or some spotted calls. - Call at 5 seconds High and raspy Eastern call again. Recording cut 2: - 8.3 seconds lower ruh call (SPTO/Plains birds) - 10.5 seconds very short low frequency call unlike really any group of towhees - 15.8-16s a "Tow-Hee!" call like Eastern towhee Recording cut 3: - 21 seconds short "ruh" similar to the call at 10.5s - 23.2-23.5s short doubled "ruh ruh" calls. Recording cut 4: - 28s: eastern-like, but lower frequency "reeeuh?" Recording cut 5: - 33s the clearest call recorded during the observation, the spotted/plains type "reuhh?" call.
פרטי השורה
Continuing in yard at heber along alley w of calexico. Large sparrow with long tail. Glossy black head and upper parts. White tertial edges on proximal margin, broad white bases to primaries. White underparts with rich chestnut sides and flanks. Dark reddish-brown eye. Call a rising “reenk?” MM: While observing this bird, other than noting the perfectly normal appearance for an Eastern Towhee, we also heard the bird giving two main call-types. The first call I heard about ~10 times from the bird was a higher frequency, slightly raspy and somewhat quickly given “reee?”, more typical of Eastern Towhees. The second call, which I heard about ~8 times was a slower, lower frequency “rrrruh?” call, more typical of Spotted/Plains hybrid birds (I have heard this call given by eastern-appearing birds in western Missouri, although have no recordings of my own, unfortunately). Interestingly, these Spotted/hybrid-type calls were never uniform, sometimes the bird would cut them short, or, the calls would not have a rising quality and just be a flat “rrr” sound. I may have obtained some rather poor-quality recordings, but a feral cat chased the birds- and the Towhee ceased calling until we left.
