*rare for Anchorage; four were present in the area between the boardwalk and the northernmost pullout, best viewed from the Seward Hwy shoulder. Not long after I arrived, a Trumpeter Swan flew in out of nowhere and charged at them. I guess it didn’t like the outsiders. The Tundra Swans took the message and flew out across the train tracks, where I’m not sure if they landed again or kept on going. All five Trumpeter Swans also eventually flew over to the same area as the sun got lower. All four Tundras had yellow spots on the lores, some more than others, but all within range for columbianus. Tundra Swans do not flag as rare in Anchorage because the filter area includes much of the Mat-Su, where they are considerably more common. As such, there are likely a lot of bogus Tundra Swan eBird records for the Anchorage area.
