There could have been five of these. They must have come down for a migration stopover, because I don't remember hearing these at Saxis in the past. We heard the typical grunt, grunt, grunt... speeding up and reducing in volume in every variation under the sun from sets of three to series. We heard the what I like to call the shivering grunt. I remember it by thinking of a least bittern shivering in the snow while trying to grunt. It's not often you're in a marsh with Least Bitterns calling all around you, so I tried to get a recording. My cell phone it atrocious. I have attached a cell phone recording of the shivering grunt that was boosted 40db so that it could be heard at all. I feel like the tonal quality was either not recorded well with my phone or trashed it when I boosted it. Anyway, we got 'serenaded' by these guys for while.
