Gave three clear fee-bee-o songs then repeated Peets. Diagnostic song. Sure it was not fitz-bew In shrubby marsh. Mostly brown empid. Faint eyering. Modest primary extension NOTES AFTER I GOT TO A COMPUTER: I was birding a boardwalk through a shrubby wetland when I starting hearing a “peet” call that I thought might be Alder Flycatcher. The bird called several times and then went quiet, staying out of view. I played Alder Flycatcher song and call and got no immediate response. A minute later my wife called and I was on the phone speaking to her when I clearly heard an Alder Flycatcher song. I quickly hung up and the bird sang again as I was refocusing on the marsh. It sang a third time and I should have recorded that song but I messed up the buttons on my cell phone recorder. It was then quiet for few minutes before it started giving “peet” calls again. Several minutes later it finally came into view low in the shrubs and gave me a few second view to confirm that it was an empidonax with a faint eyering and medium primary extension. I made more sound recordings and got one poor feebeeo recorded. Attached photo shows habitat.
