A surprisingly beautiful bird. Satin white plumage and cute pudgy face. Hopefully it will hang around for a while. A first for Nwefoundland and one of the few for Atlantic Canada. I know New Brunswick had it once but not sure if Nova Scotia has ever recorded it. The Ross's arrived during an unusual influx of Snow Geese into Atlantic Canada. In Nova Scotia there have been a dozen sightings of small groups and in Newfoundland 4 at Frenchman's Cove, Burin on Monday and one at Portugal Cove South. Such an influx in mid December doesn't make obvious sense. Seems a little late for migration. Keep an eye out. There are bound to be more white geese sightings in the next few days. BM
