*continuing birds in area; first confirmed record of nesting of this species on Nantucket, after several birds had been present on-island throughout the winter. Prior to August of 2019, Nantucket County only had one confirmed record of Common Raven, so their recent introduction to our island is quite unexpected. There had been suspected nesting at the 'Sconset water tower for some time, with the presence of a nest on the backside first noted by Edie Ray about a month ago. However, it was unclear whether the nest was occupied, and for a week-or-so, seemingly no Ravens could be found in 'Sconset at all. Observed these birds through my scope at the parking lot at Low Beach over the course of 10 minutes. Twice, I watched as one of the birds took off from the tower and descended on what was presumably a rabbit carcass in the adjacent dune grass at Low Beach. The bird would then return with a good-sized chunk of meat, and appeared to be feeding it to a chick in the nest. The longer I watched, the more certain I became of there being a recently-fledged chick in the nest. I noted that both parents clung to the outside of the nest, and because of this, there was extensive whitewash coming down from either side, onto the tower. Will be interesting to see how this nest does with tomorrow's storm...
