Shows length and shape of central tail feathers
פרטי השורה
This bird was approximately the size of a Ring-bill Gull, which it forced from the air and into the water on 2 separate occasions. Lighting conditions were not the best, on a cloudy day. Viewed at 300- 500yds. Observed by 4 others. Bird was dark brown to black overall. The top side of wings were dark brownish black with define white lines in the primaries when out stretched. The under-wing was a little lighter and showed a barring pattern of white and dark. The primaries on underside showed a large white patch sort of triangular in shape. Tail appeared dark with a square like projection of approximately 1 inch of the central tail feathers. Looking like a cube on tip of tail. Upper and under tail coverts showed a strong contrasting barring paternity of white and dark. Resembling a band in tail when in flight at certain angles. Bill appears to be large and a light color with a black/dark tip in one of the photos that are poor quality. Bird was observed in flight and sitting in water also attacking Gulls. First seen approximately 12:15 pm for 2-4 minutes and again approximately 1:20 and again at 1:35pm, each time it was seen it was observed for less than 5 minutes.
