Dull primaries and white tips to primary coverts make this a bird hatched in 2017 (2CY). The entirely white, unstreaked crown and white extending across the secondaties in the spread wing are features apparently at odds with this being Arabian Wheatear. At times it was associating with a female quite different in appearance - largely grey above and white below, and which appeared to lack the brown ear-covert patch. This bird is also well to the north of the expected range of Arabian Wheatear.
Détails de l'observation
Male and female (presumed pair) on cliffs to southwest of road. Male singing regularly from small bush on cliff top. Female more secretive but seen well and interacting with male. Sexes dimorphic so this rules out most possibilities other than Arabian. A bit out or range for all these individuals - the farthest north on ebird apart from three (dodgy?) sightings in the far north. Singing male using regular song perch. Feeding on small berries on bush on side of cliff. Crown of male entirely white, no streaking. White in remiges extended across all primaries and secondaries. White on rump extended onto lower back. Pale peach undertail-coverts. Female uniform grey about head and mantle. Both showed an even black tail band approximately a quarter the length of tail. A bit concerned about all this as we're not sure whether persica Mourning is dimorphic.
