Détails de l'observation
One perched on a rock at the tip of the Westport jetty, at 1500. Observed closely from 100yds aboard the Monte Carlo. First seen sleeping, near several PECO and one BRCO. A medium sized bird, appearing somewhat larger than the nearby Glaucous-wing/Western Gulls, with a bright white lower breast and belly, contrasting sharply with a solid brown breast that is the same color as the unpatterned wings and upperparts. Fairly short yellow legs, the bird is sleeping in a horizontal position with its beak and head tucked into its back. After a minute, it raised its head showing a yellow Sulid beak, yellow facial skin and faint blue patch surrounding eye. Head is solid brown, concolor with back. After looking around briefly, tucked its head back in. Raised it one or two more times, was back to sleeping when we left it after 5 minutes. Great viewing conditions, overcast skies, light seas.
