Harris's Sparrow
Détails de l'observation
The bird was on the larger size for a sparrow. It had a pink bill and pink legs. The crown had black speckling over brown. The breast was white with black blotches across it. The sides had medium streaks and a tan wash. The nape as rufous. The wings were medium brown with dark markings and 2 white wing bars. The tail was long and dark gray. This bird had a high tolerance for humans. It would pick up a seed from the patch by the path, stretch up to look around and pick up another seed, repeatedly. It waited until the possible second to move when people approached and only moved away from the seeds if someone walked on the same side of the path it was on. Even then, it only went a few feet to watch from the base of a shrub or the lowest branch of a tree by the path. It waited only seconds to return to the seeds.
