Détails de l'observation
***mega: Continuing bird first seen flying out of pool directly across from Rock Sculpture Point, landed in pool farther back and to the north. Pics. Obviously, the unknown provenance of this bird will make it a hard decision for the NHBRC, but the evidence for this being a wild bird is substantial. It lacks any bands, the local exotic waterfowl breeder does not stock shelducks, it is in pretty intact plumage, August records have been more prevalent in the last two years, and Icelandic populations have drastically increased in recent years. In addition, Crossley notes that the British population almost entirely vacates to the coast of Germany in late summer. Howell states that not much is known about the migration and molting areas of the Icelandic population, so who knows if or where they move in late summer.
