Warm-colored spizella sparrow with clean gray nape seen foraging on ground and loosely associating with larger white-crowned sparrows. Fairly contrasting face with brown streak behind the eye (but lores were pale) and brown outlining the auricular contrasting with buffy/pale supercilium and center of auricular. The malar and throat were white strongly contrasting withe the dark lateral throat stripe. The crown had dark streaking and an amorphous and emerging whitish median crown stripe. The sides of breast had warm buff color and the breast was pale and unstreaked. The clean gray nape, facial pattern/contrast, and warm tones support identification over other spizella sparrows.
